Enthusiastic about working with teams to build a creative and motivating atmosphere, where we can develop innovative, efficient, and impactful business solutions
After a few months, I had the opportunity to contribute to an innovation project, transitioning from Engineer to Order to Configure to Order. Working alongside project manager Bart Meily, we focused on improving this process. A year and a half later, I was entrusted with the responsibility of managing the CPQ software at De Meeuw VDL as a project manager.
Following two years at De Meeuw, I joined Van Wijnen as a product developer. This role provided a unique opportunity to engage with the most innovative approaches in construction. The architecture is diverse yet standardized, and the buildings and homes are constructed from prefabricated elements that are fully automated, engineered, and produced.
When you industrialize or partially industrialize, it also means that the workforce must adapt their way of working. Knowledge of construction processes becomes increasingly important. Instead of pouring concrete on the construction site, concrete is produced in the factory. How does this impact the planning of an entire construction project?
Ultimately, the main goals of a CPQ platform are to increase profits, speed up processes, and work more efficiently. While a great CPQ system can offer many of these benefits, it is not a guarantee of success. The CPQ platform is a tool to support the existing product, but the sales and operational functions are still the most important. Therefore, identifying risks is a crucial part of the process. What if, in three years, I need to sell completely different products? Will the CPQ platform still work effectively then?
The possibilities of the software in relation to the architectural product are significant; in principle, anything is possible. However, it must be realistic and feasible. New reinforcement in concrete? Automatic engineering and placement? For this, you need to understand the properties of the steel and know how many hours the software developer will need.
From concept to a commercially viable product. While it may seem straightforward, the process is more complex than it initially appears. Failing to follow all the necessary steps can result in an incomplete product, with various negative consequences. Some potential outcomes include: exceeding the development budget, missing the right market timing, technical issues, and dissatisfaction among stakeholders or end-users.
